It didn’t show up in Detroit as some had predicted, but the new Chrysler 200 Convertible has made its debut this week anyway thanks to leaked photos on an Italian car blog.
A 200 Convertible was pretty much always a foregone conclusion, since the 200 is really an updated Sebring. And if Chrysler can update the fixed-roof Sebring, why not apply the same polish to the convertible? And so they have. We don’t know when the new 200 Convertible you see here will go on-sale, but with the first 200s rolling off the line already, we’d bet you won’t have to wait long.
When it does reach your dealer lot, we see no reason why it wouldn’t carry the same four-cylinder and “Pentastar” V-6 engine options as the sedan, along with the same four- and six-speed automatic transmissions. Given that the Sebring Convertible featured a folding hardtop that stowed in the trunk, the 200 Convertible will almost certain follow suit. Naturally, the 200 Convertible will get all of the sedan’s upgraded body, chassis, suspension and interior parts as seen in these pictures.
Really, the only questions left at this point are when it will go on-sale and how much it will cost. Considering that most of the hard work is likely already done, we expect it’ll be on the lots within a few months and will fall in line with the old Sebring Convertible’s $28,600 starting price (four-cylinder, or $33,460 for the V-6).
