To Production
The intriguing donut doors which premiered on the 2018 Jeep Wrangler last year won’t be made available to customers.
Essentially doors with a large hole that would have increased visibility when off-roading, the donut doors were presumed to be a given for production due to their presence on show cars at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Speaking to Jalopnik, however, a company representative said they were only ever conceived as a prototype and that the automaker has opted to instead offer the 2018 Wrangler with half-doors.
“Half-doors will be available starting in 2019 but will not be the “donut door” style shown in LA. It’ll be the half-door design similar to previous versions,” the representative said.
It was thought that the donut doors would feature removable plastic plugs which could cover the holes when needed. Removable plastic windows may have also accompanied the donut doors.
While the production model won’t get these doors, 2018 Wrangler customers will still have ample options to choose from when creating their perfect off-roader, including removable doors and even a windscreen which can be detached and lowered onto the hood.
Additionally, a plethora of engines make up the range such as a 285 hp Pentastar V6 and a 268 hp 2.0-liter turbo four. A plug-in hybrid will land in the not too distant future.
