Flippers Rejoice
Dodge has confirmed that there will not be a Challenger SRT Demon produced for the 2019 model year.
When the drag-focused Demon was unveiled last year, the automaker said it would only be built for the 2018 model year and limited to 3300 examples worldwide. Despite this, a number of rumors have surfaced indicating that due to demand, Dodge has decided to build the Demon for one more year.
Speaking to Allpar, however, Dodge boss Tim Kuniskis denied the possibility of the Demon returning in 2019.
“2018 only, one-and-done. The people who sit back and wait for next year are going to miss out,” he confirmed.
Despite being largely a one-trick pony, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has been very well received by gearheads, perhaps because it is so absurd.
At the time of the Demon’s launch, it was the world’s quickest accelerating production car. While its 2.3 second 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time has been beaten by the Tesla Model S, it still is incredibly brisk.
Powering the Demon is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine delivering 840 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque. Drive is sent exclusively to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Prices for the 2018 Demon started at $84,995.
