The redesigned 2015 Dodge Challenger coupe has earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) -- the organization’s highest rating. NHTSA previously listed a Safety Concern for the pre-refresh 2014 Challenger, but that has now been addressed. The SRT and SRT Hellcat models have yet to be tested.
In individual testing, the 2015 Dodge Challenger earned a five-star safety rating in the side impact and a four-star rating in the frontal crash and rollover tests. Additionally, the NHTSA recommends the redesigned Challenger’s available Forward Collision Warning (FCW).
The 2015 Dodge Challenger coupe’s redesign is inspired by the 1971 model, including the split grille and new projector headlights with LED rings. While the hood is noticeably different, the muscle car also gains more side impact reinforcement under the skin -- a concern noted in the 2014 Challenger’s side impact test. Around back, the taillights, rear fascia, and exhaust tips were also redesigned.
The interior was also redesigned with higher-quality materials and the latest Uconnect system. In addition to the aforementioned forward collision alert, other active safety tech includes a standard rear-view camera and optional adaptive cruise, Blind-Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross-Path Detection. Powertrain options include the base 305-hp 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and two available Hemi V-8s: a 375-hp 5.7-liter and a 485-hp 6.4-liter. All engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic, while the Hemi V-8s are available with a six-speed manual transmission.
