Jeep Reportedly Wants Flagship Model to
Rival Range Rover
Jeep’s upcoming Grand Wagoneer model, which will sit above the Grand Cherokee in the range, is apparently going to be aimed at premium rivals such as the Range Rover(s) and Land Rover Discovery.
The three-row model, which is due in 2018, and its premium aspirations were (re)confirmed for Autocar by Jeep’s global brand director, Michael Manley, who said: “Part of my plan says there is space for us above the Grand Cherokee. I’ve always talked about Grand Wagoneer and that for me is a big focus and will fill out the brand at the top.”
In his view, the Grand Wagoneer “will very, very effectively compete with premium SUVs.” It won’t, however, step on the toes of the upcoming Maserati Levante, which will be a more hunkered down, sportier offering altogether, riding on what are believed to be modified Grand Cherokee underpinnings.
