SRT Motorsports revealed details about two 2014 Dodge Challenger SRT race cars that will participate in the Trans Am Series. Miller Racing will field the pair of Challenger race cars for the remaining 2014 season with the first race being the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course August 15-16. The cars will be driven by four-time series champion Tommy Kendall and current class points’ leader Cameron Lawrence in the TA2 series class.
Power for the 2014 SRT Motorsports Dodge Challenger race cars comes from an SRT 384 cubic inch (6.3-liter) V-8 engine built by Arrow Racing Engines. Rated at 499-hp, the engine is mated to a G-Force T101 four-speed non-sequential transmission. A 22-gallon fuel cell supplies fuel to the engine. 2015 Dodge Challenger Srt Trans Am Racecar Tommy Kendall Up front, the fiberglass paneled race cars feature a double A-arm suspension, while the production car’s independent rear suspension has been replaced with a solid axle with a three-link setup and an adjustable panhard bar. The suspension also features anti-roll bars and double adjustable RE Ohlins dampers. Stopping power comes from 12.2-inch Stop-Tech rotors front and 11.8-inch Stop-Tech rotors in back, while grip comes from a set of Hoosier 27.0 x 10.0-inch tires wrapped around steel 15-inch Bassett Racing Wheels.
Most exterior dimensions have shrunk with the new fiberglass body panels. The 2014 SRT Motorsports Dodge Challenger Trans Am Series race cars ride on a 104.0-inch wheelbase (116.2 inch) and are 195.9 inches long (197.5 inch). Height measures 48.0 inches (55.7 inches), while width has increased to 78.4 inches (75.7 inches). Driving the No. 11 Dodge Challenger SRT, Kendall will reenter the Trans Am series after a 10-year hiatus, while Lawrence will try for a second consecutive win at the Mid-Ohio race in the No. 1 Dodge Challenger. Kendall previously won the Trans Am Series in 1990 and 1995-1997, as well as his victory in the 1995 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Despite changing manufactures mid-season, Lawrence will keep his 21-point lead over the second place drive in the TA2 class.
