Sorry, Folks: This Isn't A Future Jeep Crossover
By now, you've likely read the buzz online that Jeep accidentally previewed a forthcoming crossover in a recent video posted to YouTube. An interesting story, perhaps, but don't get your hopes up. Jeep spokesman Todd Goyer tells us that isn't the case.
"The sketches and clay model shown in the video are past design studies," Goyer says, "and they do not represent the future of Jeep design."
Goyer says the YouTube video -- part of a string of clips posted by Chrysler's social media staff -- is targeted at younger buyers (especially collegiate customers), and hopes to build excitement for the Jeep brand by providing a deep look at the process involved with creating vehicles.
That's not to say that Jeep's portfolio won't include a Fiat-based crossover in the future. According to the expansive product plan rolled out at a press conference last November, the Jeep brand is due to receive a new B-segment small SUV in 2013, riding atop a Fiat platform.
Fiat's C-Evo platform, which underpins the likes of the Fiat Punto and Lancia Delta, is also expected to serve as a basis for another crossover, which will replace the Compass and Patriot around 2013.
Since this isn't the future Jeep, it's safe to assume designers are working from a relatively clean slate. What would you like to see them incorporate into these new models? Send us your suggestions -- style, feature, or otherwise -- in the comments section. |
