Dodge Starts Production Of The Insane 2021
Durango SRT Hellcat
Production of the insane 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat has kicked off at the company’s Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit.
Dodge opened the order books to the Durango SRT Hellcat on November 5, 2020 and in the third week of January, announced that it had sold out. The SUV will be limited to the 2021 model year with production tipped to end in June 2021. Approximately 2,000 examples will be built, all for the U.S. market.
“Like welcoming a new member to the family, today’s launch of the Durango SRT Hellcat celebrates the newest addition to the Brotherhood of Muscle,” Dodge Brand and Interim Chrysler Brand chief executive Tim Kuniskis said in a statement. “The Dodge Durango Hellcat joins Charger and Challenger at the pinnacle of performance, and today’s start of production in Detroit deserves a spot on every enthusiast’s calendar.”
The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat features a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine churning out 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. Mated to this all-conquering V8 is an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission powering all four wheels, allowing the SUV to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds and run down the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds. The top speed of the ultimate Durango sits at a cool 180 mph (290 km/h). Making the SUV all the more impressive is the fact that it can tow up to 8,700 lbs (3,946 kg).
When the order books were open, the Durango SRT Hellcat had an MSRP of $82,490 including a $1,495 destination fee. |
