Dodge Will Only Build The Durango SRT Hellcat For
Six Months
The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat was unveiled only last week but, unfortunately, it won’t be on the market for very long.
Driving the vehicle is FCA’s 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that pumps out 710 hp and 645 lb-ft (874 Nm) of torque and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Dodge claims the Durango SRT Hellcat will hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds, run down the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds and top out at 180 mph (290 km/h).
While recently speaking with Muscle Cars and Trucks about the SUV, global head of Alfa Romeo and head of passenger cars for Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat, FCA-North America, Tim Kuniskis, revealed the automaker won’t cap numbers on the Durango SRT Hellcat but will only build it for approximately six months.
“(The Durango Hellcat) is not limited, not serialized like what we do with (Dodge Demon), but we’re only building them for six months,” he revealed. “With all of the changes we made in the plant to come back up (to production) post-COVID with the sequencing and spacing in the plant, it’s changed the number we can build… I don’t have an actual number but it will be less than 2,000. I don’t how much less than 2,000. It will be determined by customer demand and how much we can build in that six-month period.”
Prices for the Durango SRT Hellcat have yet to be announced, although we know that it will arrive in dealerships from early 2021, while the order books will open this fall. After Kuniskis’ reveal, those interested in buying one would be wise to get in their order quickly before all examples are accounted for. |
