2020 RAM 1500 Rebel EcoDiesel Has The Class-
Leading Figures, But Does It Deliver?
The EcoDiesel version of the 2020 RAM 1500 offers the most torque, as well as the best towing capability in the half-tone diesel truck segment and now it’s time to learn if it’s actually as good as the numbers suggest.
The 2020 RAM 1500 EcoDiesel is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine that kicks out 260 HP and 480 lb-ft (651 Nm) of torque, giving it a massive towing capacity of 12,560 lbs (5,697 kg).
The Straight Pipes got a RAM 1500 Rebel Ecodiesel model, which means it also has a 1-inch suspension lift, Bilstein shocks, an electronic locking differential and various cosmetic changes aiming to make it look meaner and more off-road-ready.
If you are after a new diesel truck, chances are that the towing figure is rather important and that you’re planning to use it mostly as a work tool. The RAM 1500 has already proven itself to be an excellent choice in its petrol forms so adding a modern diesel under that bulging bonnet shouldn’t mess with its successful recipe.
In fact, the engine is praised for its quietness and its great relationship with the clever eight-speed automatic transmission while the torque makes its presence well known. It still sounds like a diesel from the outside but that’s something to be expected.
The cabin of the RAM 1500 remains the nicest place to spend some time in among its rivals, with good-looking, nice-quality materials throughout, myriads of storage solutions and, if you tick the right option, that massive portrait-style infotainment display that offers pretty much everything you’d want.
In the States, the 3.0-liter V6 diesel is a $4,995 option over the standard 3.6L gasoline engine on all RAM 1500 models.
