WC-57 Command Car Is For Sale
If military vehicles could talk and act, then each and every one of them would take direct orders from this Dodge WC-57 Command Car.
Part of the series produced for the army between 1942 and 1945, and the predecessor of the post-war civilian Dodge Power Wagon, the vehicle in question was modified for General Patton to use during World War II, and is arguably one of the coolest cars that have popped up for sale in years.
We’ll get to the details as to how one can purchase it in a few moments, but first, let’s delve into some of its awesome features. Modified in England in 1944 to Patton’s specifications, it was fitted with front and rear armor plating, sirens, horns and metal flags and stars so that the troops could see and hear it from miles away.
It also welcomed at .50 caliber Browning machine gun to return fire upon enemy aircrafts that would have spotted it, as well as a rail placed behind the front seats so that the General could hold on to it while standing to address the troops, which he often visited on the front, no matter where it was. Power came from Dodge’s six-pot engine.
The car underwent restoration and will go under the hammer at the WorldWideAuctioneers event scheduled to take place between June 11 and 14, at the Kruse Plaza in Auburn, Indiana. It’s offered at no reserve, and given its ties to the General, who commanded the U.S. Seventh Army in the Mediterranean and the U.S. Third Army in France and Germany after the invasion of Normandy in 1944, it will likely fetch a fortune.
