197HP 4-Cylinder Diesel
Jeep has released the details of the European Wrangler ahead of its official market launch in the region this September.
The latest generation of the off-road icon will be offered with two engine options in Europe, including a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder petrol engine and a new 2.2-liter Multijet II turbo four-cylinder diesel engine.
Customers in the Middle East, Russia and Africa will be offered the more powerful 3.6-liter V6 option with 280hp (284PS) and 255lb-ft (347Nm), with those in the old continent being limited to four-cylinder engine options only. All powertrains come with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard.
The new Jeep Wrangler will be initially available in Europe with just the 2.2-liter Multijet II diesel engine. Power is rated at 197hp (200PS) and torque at 331lb-ft (450Nm). Jeep claims that a four-door Sahara model is capable of a 0-62mph (100km/h) in 9.6 seconds while top speed is 111mph (180km/h). 2.0-liter petrol models will become available towards the end of the year, offering 268hp (272PS) and 295lb-ft (400Nm) of torque.
European customers will be offered three trim levels: Sport, Sahara and Rubicon. All three of them will be available in both two- and four-door bodystyles, while Sahara models can be specified with a new Overland pack as an option.
The new Overland pack adds to Sahara models a set of unique 18-inch aluminum wheels, body color grille with bright accents and headlight bezels, body-colored spare tire cover and a leather interior, among other.
Wrangler Rubicon still the king of the range
Sport and Sahara models of the new Jeep Wrangler will be fitted with the Command-Trac all-wheel drive while the more off-road capable Wrangler Rubicon models come with the Rock-Trac all-wheel drive system. Both systems feature a new full-time two-speed transfer case. Shifting between 2WD and 4WD can be done at speeds of up to 44mph (72km/h).
Apart from the different all-wheel drive system, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon comes with heavy-duty Dana 44 axles, Tru-Lok electric front- and rear-axle lockers, added articulation and a longer suspension travel with the kind help of an electronic sway-bar disconnect.
There will be three top options: the Sky One-Touch soft-top which can be retracted with a push of a button, the Zipperless Premium Sunrider soft top and the modular Freedom Top, which is a removable, three-panel hard top.
Inside you get either a 3.5-inch or a 7-inch display for the instrument cluster while customers will get to choose between a 7.0-inch or a 8.4-inch touchscreen display for the UConnect infotainment system that comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard. A smaller 5.0-inch infotainment system will be offered in Wrangler Sport models in markets outside Europe. Finally, the new Jeep Wrangler features a wide range of safety systems, including Blind-Spot monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection and more.
