We know for quite some time now that Jeep plans to add a pick-up to its line-up, but it seems that the project is still a long way from completion.
To top it off, it’s possible that the future product will be a standalone model, instead of a Wrangler-based machine, as the direction of “operation pick-up” remains to be decided by the American car manufacturer.
Speaking with Jeep head of design, Mark Allen, Car Advice reports that this issue is being currently addressed, as Allen pointed out:
“That’s some of the homework we’re doing right now. But how much desire is there? Is it a pick-up truck or is it a Wrangler variant? That’s the line.”
Of course, in order to keep production costs down, the pick-up will probably share its underpinnings with the Wrangler, even though it may or may not have a different style and philosophy. Anyway, it’s clear that Jeep will eventually spawn the long-awaited model, but its fans would have to wait a little longer than previously anticipated, as Mark Allen continued:
“It’s not really a project yet – we hope it to be. There’s been planning on it, that’s about it. It’s something we all desire, and have for a long, long time. I’ve never been shy about that. But it’s just not ready for primetime yet. It’s very much in the planning books at the moment though.”
Nevertheless, before planning the future automobile, Jeep needs to sort out other “complications”; apparently, the car maker doesn’t have any room left in its assembly plant for another model, as it’s currently selling every Wrangler it makes.
